Fast blower and controversial cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has once again stirred some buzz by undergoing liposuction to reduce weight and get better fit for playing cricket. Shoaib is reported to have removed extra fat via liposuction surgery in Islamabad without consulting the authorities, thus becoming the object of criticism once again.
An official from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was reported as commenting on Shoaib’ liposuction with resentment, saying that the player was supposed to inform the board before taking any kind of medical treatment. PCB recently refused to pay Shoaib’s medical bills for treatment taken for a knee injury in London, arguing that the injury came not during his play for the cricket team. This seems to be one possible reason why Shoaib went to take liposuction on his own, thinking that a cross PCB will not fund his treatment.
It is obvious that Shoaib will not be able to play in the next few months, not international cricket at least. In fact, PCB’s chairman Ijaz Butt has been reported saying that Shoaib’s cricket career is over and the board will find his substitute among many of the young players that are coming to offer their talent for the national cricket team.
